How it works
Loperamide is an anti-diarrhoeal medication. It works by slowing down the contraction of the intestines thereby decreasing the speed at which the contents pass through it. This allows more time for reabsorption of fluids and nutrients, making the stools more solid and less frequent.

Alcohol CAUTION Loperamide may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol. warnings Pregnancy WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS Loperamide may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor. warnings Lactation SAFE Loperamide is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby. warnings Driving Loperamide may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive. warnings Kidney SAFE Loperamide is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Loperamide is recommended. However, inform your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease. warnings Liver CAUTION Loperamide should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Loperamide may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
