Alfacalcidol works by improving the amount of active vitamin D in the body which in turn results in increased calcium and phosphate levels in the blood and reduces breakdown of bones. Calcium Carbonate is an antacid which works by neutralizing the acid released in the stomach.
How to use
Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break or chew the tablet whole. Avoid missing a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don t consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health. Shelcal OS Tablet 500mg should be taken after food. The usual dosage for adults is 1 tablet per day or as directed by your physician.
Interactions / Warnings
Take the Shelcal OS tablet 500mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions: Kidney: Inform your doctor if you have any renal problems before taking Shelcal OS tablet. Liver: Inform your doctor if you have any hepatic problems before taking Shelcal OS tablet. Pregnancy: Do not take Shelcal OS tablet 500mg without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant because it is not known whether this drug may harm a fetus or not. Lactation: Do not take this medicine if you are a nursing mother without doctor?s opinion because this drug may pass into breast milk and no human data is aVialable to assess risks on milk production. Drug Interactions: Alfacalcidol: Thiazides may increase the risk hypercalcemia. Vitamin D requirement is needed when taken with antiepileptic drugs. When taken with corticosteroids, rifampicin and isoniazid vitamin D efficacy may be reduced. Calcium Carbonate: Decreased absorption of the drug when used with tetracyclines, atenolol, iron, quinolones, alendronate, NA fluoride ZN and calcium channel blockers etc.
